Yolanda Denise King (born November 17, 1955 in Montgomery , Alabama , † May 15, 2007 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American civil rights activist and actress as well as the eldest daughter of the murdered American civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. and the Activist Coretta Scott King who died in 2006 .

biography

Her childhood was marked by the race riots in the southern United States of America. Due to the high moral courage of her famous father Martin Luther King, she lived a rather withdrawn life with her younger siblings Martin Luther King III, Dexter Scott King and Bernice Albertine King. Above all, the father wanted to protect the family from "rash" attacks by his fanatical opponents, although he never publicly expressed his own fear of the "KKK" - the Ku Klux Klan .

In an interview in the late 1970s, when asked how she had cope with the violent death of her father , she replied, in a nutshell, that she drew her strength from it to continue his work. In 2007, King died suddenly, presumably of heart failure .

Civil rights activist

At a young age she was involved in civil rights movements.
