Yona (real name Johanna Pitkänen, formerly Louhivuori, born March 5, 1984 in Austria ) is a Finnish singer-songwriter . She was born in Austria, but spent her childhood in Oulu . When she was 10 years old, her family moved to Kuopio and later to Helsinki , where she still lives. She is a graduate of the Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatory.

Career

Timmion Records released Yona's debut album Pilvet liikkuu, minä en ( Eng . The clouds move, I don't) on January 13, 2010. The music is a mixture of jazz , folk , hits , poetry, but also influenced by hip-hop and reggae . Yona composed most of the music herself and wrote all the lyrics. Most of the songs were arranged by the trumpeter Kalevi Louhivuori, the album was produced by Didier Selin. In March (week 11/2011) the album reached number 49 in the Finnish charts .

Orkesteri Liikkuvat Pilvet (German Orchestra Wandering Clouds ) is a 10-member ensemble that accompanies the singer during recordings and concerts. It consists of Nicolas Rehn (guitar), Antti Kujanpää (keyboard instruments), Salla Hakkola (harp), Aili Ikonen (violin and vocals), Heini Ikonen (violin and vocals), Matti Mietola (viola), Juho Kanervo (cello), Eero Tikkanen (double bass), Tatu Rönkkö (drums) and Didier Selin (mix).

In September 2010 the album Takaisin Karjalan maille ( Eng . Back to Karelia ) by the band Liljan Loisto was released , with Karelian songs arranged in reggae style. The band formed Yona, Puppa J and Punky Reggae Band. The album reached number 19 on the Finnish charts . The band's second album, Vapauden hurma , was released on May 30, 2012, and a video clip was made for the song Varkaat kulkurit from this album. Vapauden hurma reached number 26 on the charts.

In 2010 Yona received the Emma Prize for the best newcomer. In May 2011 her second solo album Vaikenen laulaen was released. The album reached number 16 on the charts.

The third album Vaikka tekee kipeää, ei haittaa was released in September 2012 and reached number 14 in the charts. In 2013, Yona took part in the annual Finnish tango competition Tangomarkkinat , and took second place. In September 2013, together with Matti Mikkola's studio band, she recorded the song "Suojassa mun unissain", which is used as the theme song for the television series Mun ainoot 30 minsaa in the second program on Finnish television.
