Yopie Prins (born March 26, 1955 ) is an American classical philologist .

Life

Prins studied Ancient Greek at Swarthmore College and English at Newnham College , Cambridge . She spent a year at the University of Amsterdam as a Fulbright Fellow before receiving a PhD in Comparative Literature from Princeton University in 1991 . She taught at Oberlin College for four years before moving to the University of Michigan. She has taught at the University of Michigan since 1994, where she is currently Chair of the Institute for Comparative Literature. She was the vice president of the American Association for Comparative Literature from 2013 to 2015 and its president from 2015 to 2016. She is the Irene Butter Collegiate Professor of English and Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan. Her research includes classical reception, comparative literary studies, historical poetics, poetry theory, translation studies and Victorian poetry.

Prins is married to the American composer Michael Daugherty .
