Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Böttcher

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Böttcher (born November 3, 1820 in Stendal , † May 18, 1883 in Magdeburg ) was a German organ builder .

life and work

Böttcher learned organ building from the masters Eberhard Friedrich Walcker in Ludwigsburg, where he was mentioned as a journeyman in 1844, and Johann Heinrich Schäfer in Heilbronn, where he worked as a journeyman in 1848. During his apprenticeship in Heilbronn, Böttcher learned about the cone shutter technology using organs that Johann Carl Sigmund Haussdörffer had built and later used it in his own organ building.

In 1855 he started his own business in Magdeburg with an organ workshop and music shop. The company went bankrupt in 1875/1876 during the construction of an organ in the St. Marien church in Haldensleben ; bankruptcy proceedings were opened on February 10, 1876. Even after 1876 and 1881, Böttcher built other organs. He was the last known master organ builder from Magdeburg.
