About this picture

Buckautal is a municipality in the west of the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in Brandenburg and part of the Ziesar office .

geography

Buckautal is about five kilometers south and east of Ziesar on the border with Saxony-Anhalt . The community is located south of the Fiener Bruch on a glacial sand . Mainly pine trees grow on the sand. The municipality extends over ten kilometers and extends from the district of Dretzen in the southwest to the district of Steinberg in the northeast. The Altengrabow military training area is near the Dretzen district . Rivers in the municipality are the Buckau , which gives it its name, with its tributaries Krummer Bach , Strepenbach , Litzenbach and Kirchenheider Bach .

Community structure

Buckau , Dretzen and Steinberg are districts of the community. In addition, there are the Birkenreismühle , Wittstock colony and Ziegelei residential areas . Five uninhabited small exclaves are surrounded by the area of the town of Möckern in Saxony-Anhalt (one of them belongs partly to Buckautal and partly to the town of Ziesar).

history

In 946 Buckau was first mentioned in a document as "Bucounici". At that time, King Otto I gave the honeysuckle of the “urbs” (lat .: city) Buckau to the Moritz monastery in Magdeburg . This makes Buckau the oldest (documented) place in today's state of Brandenburg. The name “urbs” speaks for the importance of the settlement at that time. Until its dissolution in 1571, the places of today's Buckautal belonged to the bishopric of Brandenburg , the principality of the bishops of the diocese of Brandenburg , whose residence was in neighboring Ziesar.

Buckau used to have a castle warden , today only a circular spot in the Feldmark north of the village about 150 meters in diameter remains.

Buckau, Dretzen and Steinberg belonged to the Jerichow I district in the Prussian province of Saxony since 1817 and to the Brandenburg-Land district in the GDR district of Potsdam from 1952 . Since 1993 the places have been in the Brandenburg district of Potsdam-Mittelmark.

The Buckautal community emerged on March 1, 2002 from the voluntary amalgamation of the previously independent communities Buckau and Dretzen. On March 1, 2002, the Steinberg community was also incorporated.
