Districts and neighboring communities of the Michendorf community

Michendorf is a municipality in the east of the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in Brandenburg, south of Potsdam . Today's (large) community was created in 2003 through the legally stipulated amalgamation of the six municipalities belonging to the office of the Michendorf office, which existed from 1992 to 2003 .

geography

Michendorf is located in an extensive forest area about nine kilometers south of Potsdam . The districts of Fresdorf, Stücken and Wildenbruch are in the Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park . In the south the community borders on the Großer Seddiner See . The large and small Lienewitzsee lakes are located in the western part of the municipality . In the south, the Fresdorfer See , Poschfenn and Katzwinkel belong to the municipality.

The community borders in the northwest and north on the community Schwielowsee and the state capital Potsdam , in the east on the community Nuthetal and in the southeast on the city of Trebbin , in the south on the city of Beelitz and in the southwest and west on the community Seddiner See . The municipality covers an area of 68.51 km².

The area of the municipality of Michendorf belongs geologically and geomorphologically to the glaciated backfill area of northern Central Europe and is part of the natural spatial unit of the Central Brandenburg plateaus and lowlands . This is characterized by the sequence of mostly flat ground moraine plates, hilly terminal moraines, gently sloping to flat sand and valley sand areas as well as sunken lowlands and valleys. Natural sub-units form the Beelitzer Heide and the Nuthe-Notte-Niederung.

The districts of Wilhelmshorst, Michendorf and the western areas of Langerwisch and Wildenbruch are located in the northeastern part of the natural spatial main unit Beelitzer Heide, which is characterized by flat ground moraine areas (e.g. Michendorf), valley sand areas (e.g. west of the Great Seddiner See) and Compression and terminal moraine areas (e.g. west of the Lienewitzseen) is characterized.

The landmarks of the districts Fresdorf, Stücken and the eastern parts of Langerwisch and Wildenbruch can be assigned to the natural spatial main unit Nuthe-Notte-Niederung. This is a heavily branched, humid lowland landscape from which various, mostly flat, undulating ground moraine areas rise (e.g. the eastern district of Wildenbruch). Different compression moraine tops and ridges are placed on them, u. a. the Ziebchenberg (Wildenbruch), the Grämitzberge, the Stertberg and the Kesselberg (Fresdorf). These form the range of hills of the Saarmunder terminal moraine, which rises up to 116 m above sea level with the Great Ravensberg near Potsdam, while otherwise the altitude of the compression moraine fluctuates between 45 and 60 m. The lowlands have an average height of 30 to 40 m.

The total forest area in the municipality of Michendorf is 2,941 ha (43% of the municipality area). Approximately half of the forest is divided between the dominant types of property, private forest and state forest. The Landesbetrieb Forst Brandenburg is responsible for the management of the state forest . The head forestry department of Potsdam looks after the larger part of the forest with 1,892 ha. Other forest parts are the responsibility of the head forestry department of Ferch (1,049 ha). The majority of the private forest owners are members of the forest management associations "Fresdorfer Heide" or "Märkische Heide". The other types of property in trust forest, communal forest, federal forest and property of other corporations only play a subordinate role.

At present, a large part of the forest area is occupied by coniferous forest stands in which the pine dominates. The general goal of new afforestation is the conversion of the monotonous pine stands to mixed stands, as far as the local conditions allow ( forest conversion ).

Settlement structure

While the part of the community with the districts of Wilhelmshorst, Michendorf and Langerwisch, located within the Berlin motorway ring, is suburban and dominated by Potsdam despite extensive forest areas, the small districts of Fresdorf and Stücken to the south already have a clearly rural character.

The different settlement structure and the political development history of the municipality of Michendorf, which was established in 2003, raises problems with the merging of the districts due to individual district interests.

Community structure

The municipality of Michendorf consists of the following six districts: (residents on December 31, 2018)

The inhabited districts of Wildenbruch-Bergheide, Wildenbruch-Lehnmarke and Wildenbruch-Six belong to the district Wildenbruch. Although they are spatially separated from the other parts of Wildenbruch, they have no district status according to the Brandenburg municipal constitution.

In addition, the six districts include the historically grown so-called residential areas without legal status: Alt Langerwisch, New Langerwisch, Galgenberg, Gut Breite, Lienewitz , Michendorf West settlement, Willichslust settlement, Tannenhof, Teufelshorn, Waldhaus and Weinberg.

history

Coat of arms of the Wilhelmshorst district

The history of the (large) community until 1992 is the history of its six individual communities, which has some similarities, but also clear differences. Alt Langerwisch and Neu Langerwisch merged in 1928 to form the municipality of Langerwisch. The six places established in the Middle Ages were included in the historical landscape of the Zauche in 1375 . The resulting Zauchische Kreis was merged in 1816/17 with the previously electoral office of Belzig to form the Zauch-Belzigschen Kreis (later called the Zauch-Belzig district ). Disbanded in the district reform of 1952, the then six municipalities became part of the Potsdam-Land district and in 1993, as part of the district reform in the state of Brandenburg, they became part of the Potsdam-Mittelmark district.

All six medieval villages, Fresdorf, Alt Langerwisch, Neu Langerwisch, Michendorf, Stücken and Wildenbruch were originally owned by the margraves.

  • Fresdorf was always margravial and initially belonged to the Beelitz Vogtei , which was merged with the Saarmund Vogtei very early on.
  • As a margrave's property, Alt Langerwisch always belonged to the bailiwick or office of Saarmund .
  • New Langerwisch was sovereign only until 1285, when it came to the cathedral chapter in Brandenburg as an overlord. Fiefdoms were: 1285 von Barby, from 1375 to 1545 von Schönow, 1545–1548 the cathedral chapter, 1548 to 1667 von Pfuel , then redeemed at de la Chaise. After his death in 1671, the fiefdom was withdrawn from the elector and assigned to the Potsdam office.
  • Michendorf was administered as a sovereign property by the bailiwick or the Saarmund office.
  • As a margravial property, Stücken belonged to the bailiwick or to the Saarmund office until 1524. In 1482 the village was initially given as a pledge to the von Thümen family as a fief; in 1524 the property became hereditary. Stücken originally belonged to the Beelitz Bailiwick.
  • Wildenbruch, which was owned by the von Rochow family as a margrave fief as early as 1375, occupies a special position. Between 1414 and 1416 Friedrich I had briefly withdrawn the fief because the von Rochow had opposed him.

In 1907 the Wilhelmshorst community was formed from the Wilhelmshorst colony . Old and new Langerwisch merged in 1928 to form the municipality of Langerwisch.

Michendorf and its current districts belonged to the Potsdam-Land district from 1952 to 1993 (first in the GDR district of Potsdam , then in the state of Brandenburg). The municipality has been in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district since 1993.

In 1992 the Michendorf office was founded, in which the later districts Fresdorf, Langerwisch, Michendorf, Stücken Wildenbruch and Wilhelmshorst, at that time still independent municipalities, had merged to form an administrative community. However, each municipality remained independent with its own (honorary) mayor and municipal council. As part of the municipal reform in 2003 in Brandenburg, the six official municipalities were merged by law to form the new large municipality of Michendorf. The forced merger was challenged by the eponymous municipality of Michendorf before the constitutional court of the state of Brandenburg. However, the municipal constitutional complaint of the municipality of Michendorf was "partly rejected, the rest rejected" in 2005.
