The Katzwinkel is a nine hectare comprehensive dystrophic / eutrophic shallow lake in pieces , a district of Brandenburg municipality Michendorf in Potsdam-Mittelmark . It is located around 23 kilometers southwest of Berlin in the Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park on the western edge of the Saarmunder terminal moraine arch , an eastern branch of the Zauche . The moor lake was created in the late 1980s through peat removal .

Natural space

The Katzwinkel lies between the village centers of Stücken and Fresdorf in the Weichselglacial , marshy valley of the Mühlenfließ . The Fresdorfer arm of the river drained the Fresdorfer See over the rewetted Katzwinkel and the Bauernteich into the Königsgraben, which flows into the Nuthe, until the 1920s . South of the Katzwinkel, the Fresdorfer joins the Kähnsdorf arm of the Mühlenfließ. The Kähnsdofer Arm drained the Großer Seddiner See , a 218 hectare channel basin lake , via the Kähnsdorfer See . Due to lower groundwater levels and silting processes in the lakes, the mill flow only rarely carries water. To the east of the Mühlenfließ lowland rise the southern foothills of the Saarmunder terminal moraine arch, which limits the Zauche to the Nuthe-Nieplitz lowland, the core area of the Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park.

ecology

Landscape with a wet meadow on the west bank

The Flachsee, which was eroded in the 1980s, covers 9 hectares. Its maximum depth is 2.5 meters, the average depth 1.5 meters. In the trophy system , the Katzwinkel is characterized as eutrophic (trophy level III). Its humic content leads to a slightly brown color of the dystrophic water. Its surroundings and bank areas are characterized by alder quarries and wet meadows . The reed belt is only weakly developed. The moor lake has several small islands that were specifically created as breeding islands for water birds when it was peated out. In particular, gray geese and mute swans use the Katzwinkel as a breeding area, gray geese also as a sleeping place.

Although the lake is not located in the adjacent Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung, it is part of the Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung nature reserve . In addition to the stipulations of the nature reserve , the Katzwinkel is particularly protected - access to the lake and its surroundings is prohibited. Around 100 meters to the west, the hiking trail between Stücken and the Kähnsdorfer See runs parallel to the elongated Katzwinkel area. The sandy path is part of the 66 Lakes Regional Park Route (Tour 16), a hiking trail around Berlin.
