The Poschfenn is a six hectare comprehensive eutrophic shallow lake in pieces and Fresdorf , districts of Brandenburg municipality Michendorf in Potsdam-Mittelmark . It is located around 23 kilometers southwest of Berlin in the Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park on the western edge of the Saarmunder terminal moraine arch , an eastern branch of the Zauche .

Natural location and nature protection

The Poschfenn is located on Landesstraße 73 between the village centers of Stücken and Fresdorf on the boundaries of both places, the district boundary runs through the lake. The Fenn is located in a depression of the 61 meter high Kesselberg, which is in front of the Vistula glacial Saarmunder terminal moraine arch to the west. The depression extends through the terminal moraine to the east and opens up to the monster meadows in the Nuthe - Nieplitz lowlands, the ice age Trebbin-Potsdam drainage channel. To the west, beyond the main road, there is another lowland area, which is characterized by the marshy landscape of the Katzwinkel and the Fresdorfer See .

Although the lake is not located in the adjacent Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung, it is part of the Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung nature reserve . In addition to the stipulations of the nature reserve , the Poschfenn is particularly protected - access to the lake and its surroundings is prohibited. In addition, the Poschfenn is part of the " European bird sanctuary Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung " in the Natura 2000 network , which includes the Rangsdorf lake and the Nuthetal-Beelitzer Sander nature reserve beyond the valley .

Around twenty meters from the eastern foothills, the sandy European long-distance hiking trail ( E10 ), which runs from Rügen to Ulldecona in Spain, passes the Fenn, which is not visible from the path despite its proximity.

Limnology

Poschfenn

The Poschfenn covers 6.1924 hectares and has a maximum depth of one meter and an average depth of 70 centimeters. The lake is around 600 meters long and around 150 meters wide. The elongated body of water runs in a west-east direction at the foot of the southern part of the Kesselberg, whose wooded northern slope slopes steeply to the southern bank of the Fenn. The rainwater-fed Flachsee is isolated and has no drainage.

In the landscape framework plan , the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark characterized the nutrient-rich watercourse as highly polytrophic as of 2000 and indicated a weakly polytrophic condition (level IV in the trophic system ) as the natural trophy . In 2008, however, the Brandenburg State Environment Agency classified the lake as eutrophic (Trophy level III).

Flora and fauna

plants

Slope of the Kesselberg above the steep south bank

The Poschfenn has a well-developed submerged vegetation with horn leaf and milfoil . A narrow strip of reed beds , which is also wider on the north bank, surrounds the water. The steep south bank consists of mixed forest. Alder determine the eastern foothills of the bog body of water towards the teilvernässten monster meadows. The gently sloping terrain above the north bank occupies an extensive former arable area with dry grassland that is used as pasture (as of 2010 horse pasture). On their dry ruderal sites , floristic maps showed evidence of the species Taraxacum hamatiforme and Taraxacum marchicum nom. provisional from the genus of dandelion

Horse pasture (former arable land) over the north bank

In addition, the sandy, lime-poor former arable land on the slope of the Kesselberg is the location of endangered wild herbs such as barnacle spur and lamb's lettuce . Fought as weeds for decades , the plants are now on Brandenburg's Red List (level 3, endangered ), and lamb lettuce is threatened with extinction in some federal states (level 1). Because of the large proportion of the total volume, Germany has a high level of responsibility for the protection of this monotypical genus from the sunflower family . With targeted measures, the Landschafts-Förderverein Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung eV has endeavored since 1992 to preserve the two wild herbs, which only have a chance of survival with specially adapted land use. After the previous sheep grazing had led to declining populations, the association simulated the original field use for the first time in 1997 by harrowing partial areas. In 2005 the experimental use of the disc harrow was repeated with success.

Animals

The Poschfenn and its sandy shore zones are the habitat of various frogs and the dry grass areas of many species of bees . It is a breeding area for little grebes , various species of ducks and in spring and autumn breeding area and roosting place for resting gray geese . The ornithological working group of the landscape association carries out regular observations in the SPA area of the lowlands. During the water bird census in September 2010 , the ornithologists found the following populations at the Poschfenn: two mute swans , 61  gadgets ( extremely rare according to the Red List in Brandenburg ), 22  teals ( endangered in Brandenburg ), two little grebes ( endangered in Brandenburg ) and 18  coots . According to observations made by the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft Berlin-Brandenburgischer Ornithologen” (Association of Berlin-Brandenburg Ornithologists) at NABU , crested tits and willow tits are also native to the area.
