The European bird sanctuary Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung is a bird sanctuary in the state of Brandenburg that is regulated by the Birds Directive . The area registered in 2007 under the country number 7023 and EU number DE 3744-421 serves to protect wild birds and is part of the EU network of protected areas Natura 2000 . It comprises two contiguous areas and includes two nature reserves , the Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung nature reserve as part of the Nuthe-Nieplitz nature reserve and the Rangsdorfer See nature reserve on the western bank of the Rangsdorfer See .

Establishment

The two nature conservation areas concerned (NSG) were established in the 1990s by the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Regional Planning of the State of Brandenburg. The NSG Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung was established by the ordinance on the "Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung" nature reserve of June 9, 1995. The NSG Rangsdorfer See was established by the ordinance on the nature reserve "Rangsdorfer See" of April 27, 1998.

The bird sanctuary was established in 2007 and covers a total of 6144.09 hectares .

Protected bird species

The bird sanctuary is of great importance for many breeding birds due to the wetlands and bodies of water and as a transit and resting area for water birds .

The protected bird species include:

Kingfisher ( Alcedo atthis ) Zwerggans ( Anser erythropus ), Brach Pieper ( Anthus campestris ), bittern ( Botaurus stellaris ), barnacle goose ( Branta leucopsis ), Rothalsgans ( Branta ruficollis ), Weißbart Tern ( Chlidonias hybrida ), Tern ( Chlidonias niger ), Weißstorch ( Ciconia ciconia ), Black stork ( Ciconia nigra ), harrier ( Circus aeruginosus ), Harrier ( Circus cyaneus ), harrier ( Circus pygargus ), corncrake ( crex crex ), Singschwan ( Cygnus Cygnus ), means Specht ( Dendrocopos medius ), Schwarzspecht ( dryocopus Martius ), silver Heron ( Egretta alba ), Ortolan ( Emberiza hortulana ) Merlin ( Falco columbarius ), peregrine ( Falco peregrinus ), snipe ( Gallinago media ), crane ( Grus grus ), Eagle ( Haliaeetus albicilla ), Neuntöter ( lanius collurio ), Black- headed Gull ( Larus melanocephalus ), Little Gull ( Larus minutus ), Woodlark ( Lullula arborea ), Bluethroat ( Luscinia svecica ), Little Sager ( Mergus albellus ), Black kite ( Milvus migrans ), Rotmilan ( Milvus milvus ), Osprey ( Pandion haliaetus ), Buzzard ( Pernis apivorus ), Ruff ( Philo pugnax ), Goldregenpfeifer ( pluvialis apricaria ), Small Sumpfhuhn ( Porzana parva ), Spotted Crake ( Porzana porzana ) , Tern ( sterna caspia ), tern ( sterna hirundo ) Sperbergrasmücke ( Sylvia nisoria ), Sandpiper ( Tringa glareola ).

Teichrohrsänger ( Acrocephalus scirpaceus ), pintail ( Anas acuta ), Löffelente ( Anas clypeata ), teal ( Anas crecca ), Pfeifente ( Anas Penelope ), Mallard ( Anas platyrhynchos ), teal ( Anas querquedula ) Schnatterente ( Anas strepera ), white-fronted goose ( Anser albifrons ), gray goose ( Anser anser ) -footed goose ( Anser brachyrhynchus ) Saatgans ( Anser fabalis ), Blue Heron ( Ardea cinerea ), Tafelente ( Aythya ferina ), tufted ( Aythya fuligula ), Schellente ( Bucephala clangula ), Alps beach rotor ( Calidris alpina ), sickle beach runner ( Calidris ferruginea ), dwarf beach rotor ( Calidris minuta ), Temminck ( Calidris temminckii ), flow Plover ( Charadrius dubius ), Plover ( Charadrius hiaticula ), White-winged tern ( Chlidonias leucopterus ) Mute swan ( Cygnus olor ), tree Falcon ( Falco subbuteo ) Coot ( Fulica atra ), common snipe ( Gallinago gallinago ), northern gray shrike ( Lanius excubitor ), herring gull ( Larus arge ntatus ), Caspian ( Larus cachinnans ) Sturmmöwe ( Larus canus ), black-headed gull ( Larus ridibundus ), Savi ( Locustella luscinioides ), Nachtigall ( Luscinia megarhynchos ), jacksnipe ( Lymnocryptes minimus ) goosanders ( Mergus merganser ), Kolbenente ( Netta rufina ) Curlew ( Numenius arquata ) , great cormorant ( Phalacrocorax carbo , P. c. sinensis ), Plover ( pluvialis squatarola ) Haubentaucher ( podiceps cristatus ), water rail ( Rallus aquaticus ), Uferschwalbe ( Riparia riparia ), Braunkehlchen ( Saxicola rubetra ), Woodcock ( Scolopax rusticola ), Grebe ( Tachybaptus ruficollis ), Redshank ( Tringa erythropus ), Greenshank ( Tringa nebularia ), Wood Sandpiper ( Tringa ochropus ), Redshank ( Tringa totanus ), Hoopoe ( Upupa epops ), Lapwing ( Vanellus vanellus ).

In autumn, up to 2600 migrating cranes regularly rest on two roosts in the protected area. The winter population of whooper swans has risen to over 200 specimens since 1998.
