The Rangsdorf Lake is south of Berlin situated natural lake in the district of Teltow-Fläming . It is the centerpiece of the Rangsdorfer See nature reserve. The lake is a popular water sports area in summer and for ice sailing and other ice sports in winter. The Rangsdorfer See has a declining water level and threatens to silt up completely in the next 150 years. Usage restrictions should already exist in 50–70 years. A non-profit association has been founded to save Lake Rangsdorf. In 2008, the Teltow-Fläming district council unanimously accepted a motion to rehabilitate the five large lakes in the district, the Rangsdorfer See, the Mellensee, the Großer Wünsdorfer See, the Blankensee and the Siethener See over the next 30 years.
geography
Rangsdorfer See is about ten kilometers as the crow flies from the southern city limits of Berlin. Its extension is approximately four kilometers in north-south direction and two kilometers in east-west direction. It is located immediately west of the village of Rangsdorf and south of the village of Jühnsdorf ( Blankenfelde-Mahlow municipality ). The only major tributary is the Glasowbach , which flows into the Krumme Lanke in the north of the lake. Via the Krumme Lanke he had a connection with the former Lake Blankenfeld. The lake has an area of 272 hectares and is only 1.5 m deep on average, with a maximum depth of 2.5 m. The lake level is on average 36.1 m. The Zülow Canal is the only drain that connects the lake via the Notte Canal with the Dahme near Königs Wusterhausen . The lake can be reached via the Rangsdorf train station (RE stop about every 30 minutes) and the Rangsdorf junction of the federal motorway 10 .
history
The Rangsdorfer See was formerly also called Missing , Vehlen or Vehlin . In a feudal confirmation of the village of Rangsdorf it says: "... the large lake Missing named next to the Lanke". In other names it is also called the great Vehling or Wehling, to differentiate it from the Kleiner Vehling or Wehling, today's Pfählingsee near Dabendorf (town of Zossen ).
Emergence
The lake was formed after the last ice age . The depression in which the lake lies is in the so-called Mellensee meltwater channel . It is filled with up to 15 m of sediment.
The lake threatens to silt up due to its shallow depth. It's hypertrophic . The fauna is already very poor and the condition is categorized as bad. In the winter of 2009/2010, the long ice cover and the low oxygen content in the water led to fish deaths in Lake Rangsdorf, the extent of which only became apparent in March 2010 after the ice melted. Over 300 t dead fish had to be retrieved and disposed of at a cost of 40,000 euros.
Tourist use
There are several tourist facilities on the shores of the Rangsdorf lake. However, there is no continuous hiking trail around the lake, as the Luch meadows connect to the south. The signposted Rangsdorfer See cycle and hiking trail is around 18 km long and leads over a wide area through the Zülow lowlands. There are opportunities for fishing, rowing, surfing, sailing and pedal boating in Rangsdorf, and there is also a small sandy beach. Its shallow depth means that it freezes over relatively early in the year, which is why it is popular with ice skaters and ice sailors. At the northern tip of the lake is the 62 m above sea level. NN high vineyard, the name of which refers to the earlier viticulture in these northern regions.
Sporting use
The Rangsdorf Lake is known for the excellent conditions it offers for ice sailing in winter . In summer, the two resident sports clubs, Rangsdorfer Segelgemeinschaft 53, and the Seesportclub Rangsdorf organize regattas for the pirate and OK dinghy classes as well as the ZK 10 cutters .
Protected areas
The western part of the lake belongs to the 670 hectare nature reserve Rangsdorfer See and the European bird sanctuary Nuthe-Nieplitz-Niederung . However, it is entirely located in the Notte-Niederung nature reserve . In autumn and spring, the lake is a resting place for around 40,000 migratory birds , especially wild geese and cranes .
