history

Löwendorfer Berg with observation tower seen from the Nuthe in the north

The elevation was formed around 20,000 years ago at the end of the Vistula Ice Age . Between the terminal moraine Fläming , the Baruther glacial valley to the south and the northern Berlin glacial valley , rubble , marl and sand were finally deposited as a result of the Vistula ice age. The Löwendorfer Berg forms the highest point in today's Nuthe-Nieplitz Nature Park . It was used for gliding operations in the 1920s before Schönhagen airfield was built: gliders took off from the hilltop with the help of rubber ropes . The mountain can be reached via a blue marking from Löwendorf and is part of the European long-distance hiking trail E10 and part of Tour 16 of the 66-Lakes Regional Park Route .

Observation tower

With funds from the European Social Fund , the city built a 21.7 meter high observation tower with the help of a local roofer in 2011 and 2012. 60 m³ of larch wood and around 17 tons of steel were used. The costs amounted to around 190,000 euros. It was inaugurated on June 10, 2012.

A total of 112 steps lead over seven floors to a viewing platform. There, small brass signs show some landmarks that can be recognized from there. Another sign points in the direction of Weil am Rhein , which is Trebbin's twin town.

View from the tower towards Berlin . The Berlin TV tower and the Müggelberge are each about 52 kilometers away. It is around 30 kilometers as the crow flies to the city limits of Marienfelde and Potsdam . The following objects marked in the picture can be seen on the horizon (from left to right): Potsdam , Schäferberg with the Schäferberg telecommunications tower behind the eastern Glauer mountains , Grunewald tower on the Karlsberg behind the Havelberg , Teufelsberg , Berlin radio tower , Steglitzer roundabout , Lichterfelde power station , Berlin TV tower , Marienfelde , Treptowers , Gropiusstadt , view of the villages , Schönefeld Airport , Müggelberge
