history

The first evidence for the mention in historical sources is a document of the Brandenburg Margrave Otto V from January 5, 1372, in which the village of Wollin was transferred to the Bishop of the Diocese of Brandenburg . Wollin was also mentioned in the document of Bishop Dietrich III. on May 3, 1374. Until 1571, Wollin was in the bishopric of Brandenburg , the imperial principality of the bishops, which then became part of the Electorate of Brandenburg .

Wollin belonged to the Ziesar district in the Duchy of Magdeburg from 1773 and in the province of Saxony from 1806 . In 1826 the Ziesarsche Kreis was dissolved and Wollin subsequently belonged to the Jerichow I district with the castle as the district town. In July 1950 the name was changed to Kreis Burg. By the East German administrative reform of 23 July 1952 Wollin was a municipality in the district of Brandenburg Land of the district Potsdam . After the fall of the Wall in 1990, most of the citizens of Wollin decided to belong to the state of Brandenburg and not to Saxony-Anhalt . The last change was in 1993 - Wollin has been in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district since then.
