The Romoexpress is a double-ended ferry for combined car and passenger transport that has been in use on the Rømø-Sylt-Linie between the Danish port of Havneby on the island of Rømø and the German List on Sylt since November 2019 . The ship, built in 1991, was previously in service as Tresfjord .

The name is not spelled correctly in either German or Danish.

history

The combined passenger and vehicle ferry was at the shipyard where Eide Contracting in Høylandsbygd in order. Eide Contracting got into financial difficulties in the early 1990s, whereupon the ship was completed by Fiskerstrand Verft in Fiskerstrand. The ferry was built for Møre og Romsdal Fylkesbåtar (a predecessor company of Fjord1 ). After delivery in April 1991, she was used under the name Tresfjord on the Molde - Vestnes ferry route.

In 2010, STX Norway Offshore in Langsten / Tomrefjord underwent extensive renovations, in which the drive was switched to gas operation ( LNG ). From February 2011 to January 2019, the ship operated the Flakk – Rørvik ferry connection and was then held as a reserve ferry for the route originally served until May 2019. The ferry was sold in August 2019 and handed over to the new owner on September 2, 2019. On September 3, 2019, she was brought to the BLRT shipyard in Tallinn for renovation .

The ferry, renamed Romoexpress , has been operating on the Rømø-Sylt route since November 12th . The originally planned deployment date from November 5, 2019 had been postponed due to technical problems.

Technical specifications

The ship is powered by two electric motors that act on two propeller pods. For power generation two generators are available, from a four-stroke - six-cylinder - Diesel engine manufacturer's Bergen Engines : or a (type BRM-6) nine-cylinder - gas engine of the 2010s, the beginning (33L9AG: C25 type) the manufacturer Bergen Engines -Years at STX Langsten had been retrofitted, can be driven. An emergency generator powered by a Volvo Penta diesel engine (type: D12) is also available.
