Yoshito Usui

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yoshihito "Yoshito" Usui ( Japanese 臼 井 儀 人 , Usui Yoshito ; born April 21, 1958 in Shizuoka , Japan ; † September 11, 2009 on Mount Arafune in Shimonita , Kanra-gun , Gunma Prefecture ) was a Japanese manga artist , who is best known for Crayon Shin-chan .

Life

Yoshito Usui attended high school in Kasukabe , where he lived until his death, and after graduating in 1977 began training at a technical college for design, which he dropped out early and in 1979 took a job at an advertising agency. He published his first manga as a professional draftsman in 1987 in the weekly manga magazine Manga Action , for which he mainly worked in the following time. From 1990 onwards, his greatest success to date was also published in this magazine, Crayon Shin-chan . The satirical comedy manga, which is about the everyday life of a five-year-old boy who makes his parents and his fellow human beings a hell of a lot, caused a sensation in Japan, was implemented as an anime television series with so far over 700 episodes and 19 movies translated into numerous languages. From 2003 the manga ran in another magazine of the Futabasha publishing house, Manga Town . The series finally ended in 2010, with a total of 50 volumes.

Despite the huge success of Shin-chan , which is often compared to Momoko Sakura's Chibi Maruko-chan , mainly because of the similar drawing style, Usui's other works received little attention.

On September 11, 2009, Usui did not return from a hike in nearby Gunma Prefecture. His body was discovered on September 19, 2009 about 120 meters below the Tomoiwa steep face on the 1423 m high Arafune mountain and recovered on September 20, 2009 with the help of a helicopter.
