Yoshiyuki Sadamoto ( Japanese 貞 本 義 行 , Sadamoto Yoshiyuki ; born January 29, 1962 in Tokuyama (today: Shūnan ), Japan ) is a Japanese character designer , illustrator and mangaka . He is one of the founding members of the GAINAX studio .

biography

Sadamoto wanted to become a mangaka since he was a child. But when he founded the GAINAX studio, he first became a character designer. The first film, Wings of Honneamise , was a hit in Japan and internationally. He also worked as an animator . In his designs, he was mainly based on Asian styles from China and India.

He also started drawing manga in the 1990s. His longest and most famous series was Neon Genesis Evangelion for the television series of the same name , which appeared from 1995 to 2013 and of which a volume was released every year.

In 2007, he received the 6th Tōkyō Anime Awards for Best Character Design in the film The Girl Who Leaped Through Time .
