KK Gainax ( Japanese 株式会社 ガ イ ナ ッ ク ス , Kabushiki-gaisha Gainakkusu ) is one of the world's best-known Japanese production studios for anime based in Musashino , Tokyo Prefecture .
History and structure
The Gainax studio was founded in 1981 by the students Hideaki Anno , Yoshiyuki Sadamoto , Takami Akai and Shinji Higuchi under the name Daicon Film and received its current name in 1985, where gaina is a dialect term for “great”, especially from the East the prefecture of Shimane and western Tottori Prefecture spoken Umpaku dialect .
Acting director of the studio is Yasuhiro Takeda , the studio boss is Hiroyuki Yamaga .
Studio Gainax's best-known anime series is Neon Genesis Evangelion from 1995.
Higuchi left the anime industry years ago. The other founding members now have their own companies, but continue to work with Gainax.
Studio Gainax employees have been guests of honor at the annual Connichi Anime Convention since 2002 .
