Youngs Siding is a place in the Australian state of Western Australia . It is located about 28.5 kilometers west of Albany and 17.5 kilometers east of Denmark in the traditional settlement area of ​​the Aboriginal tribe of the Mineng .

To the west of the village are Nullaki and Hay , to the south of the Lowlands , to the east of Kronkup and Torbay and to the north of Redmond West .

To the west, Youngs Siding has about 9.6 kilometers of shore at Wilson Inlet and Youngs Lake . On this bank are the beaches of Morley Beach , Hay River Beach , the headland Nonalup Point and the island of Cuppop Island . Inland are also the Nenamup Inlet and Morley Hill . The rivers Morley Creek , Sleeman River and Hay River flow through the village .

History and place names

In 1889, Millars Karri and Jarra Forests Ltd. a railway line from today's Elleker to Torbay, which was extended to Denmark in the mid- 1890s . The siding was called Young's Siding. In 1903 the government released land next to this track for purchase in order to found a new town called Youngs , which was added to the gazette in 1917. "Siding" (siding) was removed from the names at that time. Since the place was still known as "Young's Siding" in normal usage, it was decided in 1999 to change the name to Young's Siding .

The first part of the place name goes back to the farmer David Young, who began to cultivate land in the region in the 1850s .

The village of Youngs Siding had a population of 336 people in 2016, of which 54.4% male and 45.6% female. Among them are 2.1% (seven people) Aborigines or Torres Strait Islanders .
