Youssef Sofiane ( Arabic يوسف سُفيان, DMG Yūsuf Sufyān ; * July 8, 1984 in Villefranche-sur-Saône ) is a French - Algerian football player.

Career

Via the youth teams of the US Jassans and the FC Villefranche-Beaujolaias (1996 to 1998), Youssef Sofiane made it into the junior division of the AJ Auxerre in 1998 , where he was also used in the lower-class C team from 2001 to 2002. In June 2002 he signed a contract with the Premier League team West Ham United , where he was brought on free transfer by coach Glenn Roeder as a prospective player. He made his league debut a year later, on August 9, 2003 as a substitute in the 2-1 win over Preston North End , in the Football League Championship . However, this was his only league game for West Ham. Four days later he played his first game on the starting line-up in the League Cup in a 3-1 win over Rushden & Diamonds , but was replaced in the 68th minute.

In January 2004 he was loaned to the French club OSC Lille until the end of the season , where he came to three missions. The next loan followed in September 2004, this time for a month with Notts County . There he played three league games and scored a goal in the 3-2 loss to AFC Wrexham in the Football League Trophy . From January to May 2005 played in the Netherlands for Roda Kerkrade on loan, where he was substituted on three times. Although he was in the preparatory games for the 2005/06 season in the squad, he was later no longer in the professional squad and so his contract was terminated by mutual agreement in August. After trial training at Milton Keynes Dons and Coventry City , where he finally moved to without signing a contract. But after only one use in the league, he had to leave the club in January 2006.

Then the Belgian club RAA La Louvière took him under contract, but after six games there, he moved again at the end of the season. Sofiane moved to the German regional soccer league for Sportfreunde Siegen . On August 9, 2006 (2nd matchday) he made his league debut in the 0-1 defeat against FC Ingolstadt 04 when he was substituted on in the 71st minute. But after only six missions, he was dismissed from his club on July 19, 2007 without notice. The club justified the termination with the fact that the player has recently not fulfilled his obligations. For the 2007/08 season he was hired by the lower class French club US Lesquin . After a season he returned to Lille OSC , where he played a league game in the professional team, but also scored 20 games and seven goals in the reserve team. After twenty games and one goal in Belgium for RFC Tournai in the 2009/10 season , he moved to the country of his roots in Algeria , where he plays for MC Alger . But after only one season he left the club and joined ES Sétif in January 2012 . But in July 2012, his expiring contract was not extended.

Sofiane played for France's U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-18 youth team.
