Ypacaraí is a city and a district in the Central Department of Paraguay 32 km from Asunción . The district with 27,380 inhabitants borders on the lake of the same name. It is called the folklore capital of Paraguay.

history

The place began its development in 1864 as the end of the railway line from Asunción. At that time he still belonged to Itauguá . After more and more people had settled around the station, the town of Ypacaraí was created by law on September 13, 1887 at the request of the residents. It got its name because of its proximity to Lake Ypacaraí .

Culture

The largest folklore festival in the country, the Festival del Lago Ypacaraí , takes place annually on 30 days in August / September. It consists of a national dance, poetry and theater festival as well as an international guitar festival.
