Friedrich Albert Julius Schwartz , von Schwartz since 1858 , (born May 28, 1797 in Glogau , † May 4, 1892 in Koblenz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Friedrich was the son of the Higher Regional Court executor Andreas Schwartz and his wife Sophie, née Seyfart.

Military career

Schwartz joined the 7th Silesian Landwehr Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a volunteer hunter on April 15, 1814 during the Wars of Liberation . He advanced to Portepeefähnrich , joined the 31st Infantry Regiment in mid-March 1816 and a month later joined the 17th Infantry Regiment . There he was promoted to secondary lieutenant on January 13, 1818 and graduated from the General War School in 1825/28 . From 1829 to 1831 Schwartz worked as a teacher at the division school of the 14th Division . In mid-July 1832, he rose to first lieutenant and came on May 12, 1834 adjutant to the 15th Landwehr Brigade in Cologne . On October 30, 1839 Schwartz was transferred to the adjutant's position as captain and was assigned to the general command of the VIII Army Corps as an adjutant . This was followed by assignments in the government in Koblenz and in the 15th division . Promoted to major at the end of March 1846 , Schwartz was appointed director of the Division School of the 15th Division on April 25, 1846. On April 25, 1847, he was transferred to the 28th Infantry Regiment as battalion commander . With the transfer to the General Staff on March 23, 1850, Schwartz was initially appointed Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the II Army Corps and on October 22, 1850 as Chief of Staff. In this position he received the Order of St. Stanislaus, 2nd class , at the end of July 1852 . As a lieutenant colonel , Schwartz became chief of the general staff of the VIII Army Corps in mid-November 1853 , rose to colonel in mid-July 1854 and received the Commander's Cross of the Order of the Oak Crown in June 1855 .

On February 19, 1857 Schwartz was appointed commandant of the Neisse fortress and on March 5, 1857 à la suite of the general staff of the army. He was then given command of the 18th Infantry Brigade in Glogau on July 9, 1857, and on May 22, 1858, he became Major General .

In recognition of his services , King Friedrich Wilhelm IV raised him to the hereditary Prussian nobility on July 21, 1858 . On February 11, 1860 he was awarded the Cross of Honor 1st Class of the Princely House Order of Hohenzollern and on October 18, 1861 the Order of the Red Eagle 2nd Class with Oak Leaves. On March 11, 1862, he was put up for disposition with the character of lieutenant general and pension . He died on May 4, 1892 in Koblenz.

Schwartz married Josephine von Bennigsen (1809–1877) in Darmstadt on February 23, 1839 . The couple had several children:
