Yu Hua
Yu Hua ( Chinese 余華 / 余华 , Pinyin Yú Huá ; born April 3, 1960 in Hangzhou , Zhejiang Province ) is a Chinese author.
His father was a doctor, so Yu grew up in a hospital setting. Yu Hua studied dentistry and worked as a dentist for five years, but chose writing in 1984 because it allowed him to work more creatively and flexibly. Many of his works are characterized by the portrayal of personal experiences, in particular descriptions of the Cultural Revolution (1966 to 1976). He began writing novels in the mid-1980s and, along with Su Tong ( 苏童 ) and Ye Zhaoyan ( 叶兆言 ), is part of the literary avant-garde. With the publication of his novel Life , he became known in one fell swoop and became one of the most influential writers in China. In August 2009, Brüder was published by S. Fischer Verlag . Yu Hua's novels Leben and The Man Who Sells His Blood (see also Yan Lianke ) have been on the market in Germany since 1998 and 2000.
