Life! ( Chinese 活着 , Pinyin Huózhe ) is a 1994 film by director Zhang Yimou with Gong Li in the lead role.
Life! offers a panorama of the 20th century in Chinese history from the perspective of the common man. Based on the original of the same name by the writer Yu Hua , Zhang staged the story of Fugui and his family, who have to prove themselves as standing up men through the many blows of fate. Her simple disposition and her confidence that better times may come are her most important qualities for surviving disasters.
criticism
“Based on popular narrative cinema, the film uses forms of melodrama to celebrate the human will to survive. A work of great emotional power, which goes beyond the fate of the individual and always brings up the (social) political developments in China. "
