Yucca arizonica (common name in other languages: Sahuiliqui (Lengua Pima) Yucca) is a species of palm lily ( Yucca ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).
description
The group-forming and trunk-forming Yucca arizonica reaches heights of 1 to 3 meters. The thin, irregularly arranged, blue to green leaves are 0.3 to 0.7 meters long and form fine fibers on the leaf edges.
The branched inflorescence that begins between the leaves or is inclined to one side is 1 to 1.5 meters high and protrudes above the leaves. The pendulous, spherical, hermaphrodite, threefold flowers have a length of about 6 to 12.5 centimeters and a diameter of 2 to 3.5 centimeters. The six bracts are white to cream-colored. The flowering period is from March to May.
This species is close to Yucca baccata ssp. thornberi , however, differences in the shape of the rosettes, leaves and the inflorescence become clear. Yucca arizonica is a representative of the Yucca section , Baccatae series . When dry, it is frost hardy to minus 10 ° C.
distribution
