Yuri Gennadjewitsch Sarchin , but mostly quoted after the English transcription Yuri Zarhin , ( Russian Юрий Геннадьевич Зархин ; * March 13, 1951 ) is a Russian mathematician who deals with algebraic geometry and number theory.

Zarhin studied from 1968 at Lomonossow University , where he received his doctorate in 1975 with Yuri Manin and habilitated in 1986 at the University of Leningrad (Russian doctorate) (also with Manin). Until 1983 he was at the Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics at Lomonosov University, from 1975 to 1986 researcher at the computing center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, from 1986 to 1987 as a senior scientist. He has been a professor at Pennsylvania State University since the 1990s .

He deals with Abelian varieties, K 3 surfaces, L-adic representations and Lie algebras . In the 1970s he worked on finiteness theorems in arithmetic geometry.
