Yusof bin Ishak
Encik Yusof bin Ishak (born August 12, 1910 in the state of Perak , Malaysia ; † November 23, 1970 in Singapore ) was the first president of the city-state of Singapore, which had been independent since 1965, from 1965 to 1970. Before independence he was Yang di-Pertuan Negara (head of state) of Singapore. Before his political career, he worked as a journalist and founded the newspaper Utusan Melayu .
His portrait is featured on the front of the current series of Singapore dollar banknotes.
