Yvonne Kenny

Yvonne Kenny (born November 25, 1950 in Sydney ) is an Australian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Kenny began her vocal training after completing a chemistry degree at Sydney University . Her career as a singer began in London in 1975 when she sang for the Opera Rara Society in a concert performance of the opera Rosmonda d'Inghilterra by Gaetano Donizetti .

She was engaged at the Covent Garden Opera London, where she soon made a name for herself with roles in operas by Mozart and Handel . She later sang at opera houses and festivals around the world, appeared on radio and television and was involved in numerous opera recordings.

Yvonne Kenny is considered a specialist in baroque music and one of the most important Australian singers of her generation. More recently, she has added roles such as Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier or the Countess in Capriccio by Richard Strauss to her repertoire .

In 1995 she received the Sir Bernard Heinze Memorial Award for her services to Australian music .
