The Zügelliest ( Halcyon malimbica ) is a bird of the kingfishers family (Alcedinidae).
features
The bridle reaches a length of about 25 centimeters. The head, back, wings and tail are colored blue. The underside is white with a blue chest band. His shoulders are black. Two toes are partially fused together. The top of the beak is red, the bottom black and curved upwards. Males and females are similar in appearance. Young animals have somewhat more muted colors than adult animals.
The call is a descending and quieter sequence of seven to ten plaintive tones.
Occurrence
The Zügelliest is widespread in tropical West and Central Africa. It lives in forests that border open landscapes, including secondary forests and mangrove swamps .
food
Insects , arthropods , fish and frogs are typical foods in the rein . Occasionally, however, it also eats the fruits of the oil palm.
Reproduction
Reins usually breed in burrows within termite mounds and typically lay two eggs.
