ZAP is a telecommunications company that provides satellite , fiber optic and internet broadcast pay TV in Angola and Mozambique . It had a 69% market share in Angola at the end of 2019. ZAP is a joint venture between the Angolan SOCIP - Sociedade de Investimentos e Participações by Isabel dos Santos , which owns 70% of the shares, and the Portuguese media company NOS .

history

The company, which is part of the Finstar Group , began operations in Angola in April 2010. A year later, it also turned to the Mozambican market, where it also advanced to become the market leader. Since 2013, with the Vidas ZAP project, it has been offering selected orphanages free access to its programs on televisions made available free of charge. In March 2014 the company founded its own production company, ZAP Studios, which produces programs with more national content for the broadcaster. In the same year it began broadcasting its programs via cable and marketing it as a package plus internet. Since July 2015, ZAP has also been broadcasting the programs of the Brazilian media company Globo on the additional television channel Globo On in Angola and Mozambique. At the same time, the company was reaching one million connected households in Angola for the first time. In 2019, the total number of TV subscribers in Angola was 1.66 million. Since May 2019, the entertainment channel ZAP Viva has also been available to NOS customers in Portugal .

ZAP cinemas

In January 2016, the company started its own cinema chain with the opening of the first IMAX complex in Angola in the Avennida shopping center in Talatona , which also belongs to Isabel dos Santos' empire. The cinema has an area of ​​3800 m² with seven halls and 1600 seats. At the end of 2019, ZAP opened another IMAX cinema in the Shopping Fortaleza on Luanda's splendid avenue Avenida 4 de Fevereiro .
