The Avenida 4 de Fevereiro (colloquially: Marginal ) is a six-lane avenue on the Bay of Luanda in the center of the Angolan capital Luanda . The wide, palm-lined avenue has a length of 3100 m and runs from the port to the Ilha do Cabo along the Atlantic coast. It is part of the EN100 national road. There are numerous skyscrapers on it, such as the 107 m high Torre Kilamba, the Ministry of Interior, Transport, Finance, Fisheries and Oil, the Angolan National Bank , the Embassy of Spain, the Museum of Money , the Museum of Science and Technology with aquarium (under construction), the Shopping Fortaleza and the São Miguel fortress of Luanda .

During the Portuguese colonial era , it was called Avenida de Paulo Dias de Novais after the city's founder . February 4, 1961 signaled the beginning of the Angolan struggle for independence . In the years 2009–2012 it was expanded by the Portuguese consortium Mota-Engil / Soares da Costa for 300 million euros, whereby the originally planned amount was exceeded by 100 million euros. Green spaces with 2100 palm trees, 750 acacias and 430 shade trees were created on an area of ​​127,000 m² , which are irrigated by a 23.5 km long water pipe system. In addition, 161,000 m² of footpaths and 1,600 parking spaces were built. Three children's playgrounds, three sports fields, five streetball fields and five places for cultural events have also been integrated.

The largest carnival parade and the award ceremony for the winners of the Luanda Carnival take place every year on a 400 m long section of the Marginal .
