The Ilha do Cabo (German: "Cape Island") or Ilha de Luanda (German: "Island of Luanda") is a narrow spit with a length of 9 kilometers and a width of between 200 and 500 meters, which runs in a southwest-northeast direction between the Atlantic Ocean and Luanda Bay in Angola .

The peninsula is also a town in the district of Ingombota in Luanda Province .

The Ilha , as it is colloquially called by the people of Luanda, is connected to the city via a narrow passage and lies at the foot of the São Miguel fortress . Here is the place where many people relax from the stress of the capital, especially on weekends. Along the beach, which stretches in the northern part of the Ilha on both sides of the main street, there is a variety of restaurants, bars and discos. Hotels, a naval base, one of Luanda's best hospitals, the marina and the former zoo and botanical garden (Floresta) are also located here. On the southern part of the Ilha across from Praia do Bispo, Chicala, fishermen sell their catch in the morning. However, more and more stretches of beach are being privatized and are no longer accessible to the city's residents.

On the headland stands the oldest and therefore the first church in Angola to be built by the Portuguese , the Church of Our Lady of the Cape . It was built by around 40 settlers in 1575 before moving to the mainland in the current capital Luanda, founded in 1576.

Thatched huts for visitors to the bars and restaurants on Ilha de Luanda.

The island's residents have retained some traditional customs. Women plait hair, wear pearls around necks and wrists and so-called Bessanganas , a costume made of colorful fabrics. Every year in November the festival of Quianda (or Kianda) is celebrated, a ritual worship of the gods of the waters and protectors of the fishermen.
