NOS is the name of a Portuguese media company . It offers cellular , satellite , cable television and ISP . NOS emerged from ZON Optimus in 2014 and is listed in PSI 20 .

Summary

A reorganization of Portugal Telecom in 1996 led to the definition of different areas: Fixed line telephony , mobile network , cable television as well as multimedia, companies, international activities, innovation and information systems . This should guarantee growth, profitability and monopoly in the fixed network. So PT Multimedia was born. The company owned roughly 69 percent of the market for pay TV , be it cable or satellite, which gave access to over 100 channels on cable TV in Portugal.

In autumn 2007, the process of separation between Portugal Telecom and PT Multimedia was completed with the creation of TV Cabo Portugal and PT Comunicações as future competitors. As a result of the spin-off, the telecommunications company Meo -Serviços de Comunicações e Multimédia SA was founded in 2007 , and TV Cabo was renamed ZON Multimedia in 2008 .

In 2013, the merger of ZON Multimédia and Optimus to form ZON Optimus was announced. The agreement provided for an increase in ZON's share capital. Taken together, ZON and Optimus achieved sales of more than 1.6 billion euros and a market share of 26 percent.

Since 2014 the company has sponsored the Primeira Liga , the highest Portuguese soccer league.

Rebranding

Since May 16, 2014, the former ZON Optimus has been called NOS as a result of the merger of the two companies. NOS intends to invest more than 1 billion euros in cable TV services, internet, landline and mobile, and cinemas by 2019. [outdated]
