The EDP Renováveis (German: EDP Renewables ) is a company founded in 2007, Portuguese companies in the alternative energy with a focus on wind energy and in this region the world's third largest company. The head office is in Madrid , Spain. EDP is listed in PSI 20 , the most important share index of Euronext in Lisbon .
The majority shareholder of EDP Renováveis is Energias de Portugal , with 78% , the largest industrial group in Portugal and one of the most important energy supply companies in Europe. In March 2007, the EDP Group took over the American wind power company Horizon Wind Energy LLC from Texas from the US investment bank Goldman Sachs Group and founded EDP Renováveis.
On the Iberian Peninsula , the company is the third largest energy operator with business interests in the generation, distribution and delivery of electricity and gas in Portugal and Spain . EDP Renoáveis also has a strong position in the Brazilian electricity sector and is also active in France , Belgium , Poland , Romania and the USA .
At the end of 2010, Portugal was producing around 30 percent of the electrical energy it needs from wind energy.
Shareholder structure
The EDP Renováveis share has a weighting of 10.37% in the Portuguese Stock Index 20 of Euronext Lisbon (as of March 2017) and is also represented in the share index for renewable energies (RENIXX).

In spring 2017, the majority shareholder EDP submitted a buyback offer with the aim of the subsequent, compulsory takeover of the remaining minority shareholders ( squeeze-out ).
