Rudi from the Dovenmühle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rudi von der Dovenmühle (born September 19, 1920 in Cologne ; † March 18, 2000 Cologne) was a pop composer in the 1960s and 1970s. In much of his work he used the pseudonym Rudi Lindt .

Career

As a young boy, he taught himself to play the piano. During the Second World War he came to Denmark as a radio operator, where he spent most of the war. After the end of the war, von der Dovenmühle went to Berlin, where he first made his way as a piano player in clubs, met many American soldiers and through them came more and more into contact with jazz. In 1951, together with his wife Margot Böhm, he founded the music publisher Minerva Music in Berlin and met the then already successful composer Edmund Kötscher , with whom he began a collaboration.

First hit

Will Glahé - Liechtenstein polka

The first recognizable result of this work was the recording from June 13, 1956, when The Perlentaucher von Santa Margerita was created for Fred Bertelmann (with Kötscher and Nobach; A-side: red is your mouth ). It was here that Rudi von der Dovenmühle first met Nils Nobach , with whom he was to become a close friend. In November 1957, the popular Liechtenstein Polka was created , voiced by Will Glahé & His Orchestra . Glahé actually came from Germany and studied at the Cologne University of Music - but his great success came in the USA. Since 1939 he was known there as the “Polka King”, so it was only natural to leave this composition to him. After publication, the B-side (A-side was Swiss Kanton Polka ) made it to 16th place on the US pop hit parade . As with most of the following compositions, von der Dovenmühle hid behind the pseudonym Rudi Lindt . 1958 was created for Die Heimatsänger as the B-side of Die Rote Rose under the title Du schenkst mir Gold und Silber (with Kötscher), they could not duplicate the previous hit Köhlerliesel . Minerva-Musikverlag and the couple moved to Cologne in the late 1950s.

1960s

Gitte - I want a cowboy for a man
Siw Malmkvist - A cheeky kiss is half the battle

It was not until April 10, 1961 that he appeared when Vreneli was recorded as co-composer for Cliff Richard , who was selected as the B-side of Schön wie ein Traum . His breakthrough as a composer came in 1963, when he and his friend Nils Nobach wrote Gitte Hænning's greatest hit, Ich will 'nen Cowboy als Mann . The record reached first place in the German hit parade and became the author's only million seller . He wrote for Nora Nova in 1964 You get used to the beautiful so quickly , last place at the Eurovision Song Contest 1964 . It was not until July 1965 that his composition Blondes Haar am Paletot came out for Dorthe (rank 24), followed in the same month by Don't speak about it for Wencke Myhre (rank 5). Further versions of the song with Helga Brauer or Die Kolibris could not be placed. The diary of love with Siw Malmkvist (B-side of Das fifth Rad am Wagen ) was also published in July 1965. Together with Friedel Berlipp, a beautiful girl was created for Esther & Abi Ofarim in 1965 , while Siw Malmkvist is half kissed in December 1966 won (rank 7).

Greater productivity was not observed until 1966. For Wencke Myhre he wrote White Cloth in a Blue Jacket (April 1966), Pat Simon took up the B-side in August 1966 on The Sparrow in the Hand I Prefer Back (A-Side: Compliments ), Petula Clark sang It can no wonder Be bigger (1967), Petty Pay brought out Today I See It (July 1967), Pat Simon Your love comes from the heart (1967) and Our happiness began in the taxi (January 1968). Vera Palm took over Am Abend (Original: Corriamo ; 1967), There was a party and Capito (1967). In 1968 he wrote at least four titles. Daisy Door sang My Heart Has Closed (February 1968), the Vera Palm Singers took over love and loyalty , Thomas Fritsch sang 21 wird die Susann (February 1968), Petula Clark used the B-side on Let no day go back ( A-side: The Show is Over composed by Clark; April 1968). For Peter Kraus was created in 1969 When a girl cries, she needs a friend .

In 1970 Rudi von der Dovenmühle produced Piccola Eva (don't cry, little Eva) for the Communicatives in Italy. Several cover versions of the Liechtensteiner Polka followed , namely with Tina York , who had her first ever hit in April 1974 (rank 44), Tony Marshall followed in 1977, the Kirmesmusikanten in 1980. The Pogues took over Fiesta in German in July 1988 (Kötscher, Original: Shane MacGowan / Jem Finer).

retreat

Rudi von der Dovenmühle, who had never developed the high productivity of pop composers like Fred Jay , Kurt Feltz , Nils Nobach or Heinz Gietz , withdrew from the hit business early on. In 1975 he founded the insignificant labels Popcorn , Melodia and Oase , after which he reduced his activities. Wife Margot died in 1997, followed three years later by Rudi von der Dovenmühle. The music publisher Minerva is now run by daughter Silke Volgmann.
