Edward B. Gordon

Edward B. Gordon (born April 16, 1966 in Hanover ) is a German painter.

Life

Growing up in Hanover as the son of the sculptor Helmut Rogge , Gordon left the Waldorf School in Hanover in 1984 and went to London to study acting at the Chrysalis Theater and Acting School . He has been working as a freelance painter since 1992.

Gordon now lives with his family in Berlin and London.

Since 2006 there has been his blog "A Painting A Day" in addition to large-format pictures . There he publishes a so-called “daily painting” every day, always in the same 15 × 15 cm format. The texts in the blog posts about the search for a motif and its creation accompany the picture. Over 2,000 pictures have now been taken.

They show scenes from the urban context, studio still life, nudes and landscapes. The method of "daily painting" was taken up in 2011 by the University of Paderborn , with reference to Gordon as a representative of this direction.

Gordon also increasingly paints larger works, such as the “Brandenburg Series”, a cycle of more than 20 scenic impressions from this region, the picture Sommer Kreuzberg and the pictures Die Schwimmerin and Die Schwimmer, published in Zeit Magazin in August 2011.

In 2010 he accompanied the American entertainer Gayle Tufts on her show "Everybodys Showgirl" in the Admiralspalast Berlin. This collaboration resulted in later painted scenic impressions from the show and the theater.

The Berliner Morgenpost , the magazine Cicero and the Süddeutsche Zeitung as well as the city newspaper tip reported in detail in 2009 on Edward B. Gordon and his daily pictures. Gordon won the LeadAward Bronze 2010 in the category illustration contribution with his oil paintings for the dummy issue No. 22, 2009, »Berlin«. From May to June 2012, Gordon’s exhibition “Four Years Later” was on view at the Liebkranz Gallery in Berlin. The 2000th daily picture by Gordon, which was taken on June 4, 2012, could also be seen here. In September 2012 Gordon's book "Pictures of a City Painting Berlin" with a selection of his works and accompanying texts written by him in German and English was published by Kein & Aber .
