Michael Ebmeyer
Michael Ebmeyer (born January 10, 1973 in Bonn ) is a German writer , journalist and translator.
He grew up in Bielefeld , studied in Tübingen and Barcelona and currently lives in Berlin . After completing his studies, he first worked as a research assistant at the University of Tübingen , before setting up as a freelance writer . In 2001 he made his debut with the short story book Henry Silber goes to an end . Since then, he has written the novels Plüsch , Achter Achter , Der Neuling und Landungen , but also non-fiction books such as the Instructions for Use for Catalonia .
Michael Ebmeyer is also a member of the literary-musical group “Fön”, together with the authors Tilman Rammstedt and Florian Werner and the musician Bruno Franceschini. From 2005 to 2008 Ebmeyer wrote columns for Neon magazine . His novel Der Neuling is the model for the comedy Siberia , of all places, for which Ebmeyer wrote the script together with Minu Barati .
Since 2015 Michael Ebmeyer has been publishing shorter essays at "Freitext" on ZEIT Online at irregular intervals. His main topics are laughter, the propaganda strategies of the so-called "new right", the state of the German left, the Catalan independence movement and current political developments in Latin America, especially in Bolivia.
He is the co-author of Heiko Maas ' book Stand Up Instead of Ducking Away. A strategy against the law (2017) and by Stephan A. Jansens The Liberation of Education (2018).
As a moderator and interpreter, he designed bilingual readings and discussion events with, among others, Jordi Puntí , Pep Guardiola and Lluís Llach .
Ebmeyer translates from English, Spanish and Catalan for various publishers, media and museums.
