DUMMY is a quarterly society magazine from Germany . It was founded in 2003 and initially published by Jochen Förster and Oliver Gehrs . After Gehrs was briefly sole editor from 2010, he now fulfills this role together with Natascha Roshani. The publishing house is in Berlin . DUMMY has a print run of 45,000 copies. The magazine celebrated its tenth anniversary with the 40th issue in autumn 2013.

concept

The DUMMY magazine is an independent, monothematic society magazine that has been sold nationwide at kiosks since 2003. Dummy is published quarterly on a different social topic: each issue is designed by a new art director and deals with topics (Muslims, Austria, Jews, East, disabled people, atomic, poles, drugs, sausage, eyeball, corruption, mob, purse, disobedience, Lying press, amalgam, condiments, shit), which, despite their social relevance, are hardly processed in a journalistic way. As a result, a journalistic event occurs every three months, the appearance of which changes from issue to issue: the title page and formal language are different every time, and a consistent design is dispensed with. According to the newspaper Welt, DUMMY is “the most urban product in the German press landscape”.

censorship

Because of the pictures of penises and tattoos of women with spread legs, in December 2013 a Munich lawyer recommended wholesalers not to sell issue number 41. Dummy then censored the magazine for retail, not for subscriptions and its own online shop. Two sides were removed and one penis was blackened.
