Jack Jones (singer)
Jack Jones (born January 14, 1938 in Los Angeles ) is an American pop and jazz singer and actor.
Life
John Allan "Jack" Jones grew up in Los Angeles as the only child of actor and singer Allan Jones and actress Irene Hervey . There he attended University High School, in addition, his father gave him acting and singing lessons. After graduating from school, he initially took on odd jobs, worked as a gas station attendant and began performing as a singer in smaller clubs outside of Los Angeles. In 1957 he was able to sign a contract with the Los Angeles-based record company Capitol Records , where he recorded about six unsuccessful singles and one long-playing record by 1959 .
In 1960, Jones moved to the New York record company Kapp Records , with Brian Hyland , among others, under contract. Kapp 's first single was It's A Lonesome Town / Lot Of Livin 'To Do , which was also unsuccessful. Since Jones was then drafted into military service, his next single was released a year later. Jones' first successful Lollipops and Roses was released in November 1961. In the Hot 100 of Billboard Magazine , the song rose to number 60 and was awarded a Grammy . Jones had his greatest success in late 1963 with the song Wives and Lovers , composed by Burt Bacharach , which reached number 14 on Billboard and was listed on the Hot 100 for 14 weeks. This title also received a Grammy. By 1969, with Jack Jones, Kapp had released 36 singles and over ten long-playing records, of which 18 singles made it into the Hot 100.
In 1967, Jones had already been signed by RCA Victor . There he recorded records until 1975. The 1968 titles If You Ever Leave Me (5th) and Live for Life (9th) were able to position themselves in the top 10 of the AC charts . Jack Jones performed successfully with his concerts, especially in Las Vegas, well into the 1990s. In addition to his singing career, he also had numerous engagements as a musical interpreter and actor. In addition to his stage roles, Jones has also appeared in numerous television productions. In Germany he became known through the theme song of the television series Love Boat . In 1989, he was like his father with a star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood honored.
