Irene Hervey

Irene Hervey (born July 11, 1909 in Venice , California as Beulah Irene Herwick , † December 20, 1998 in Woodland Hills , California) was an American actress .

Life

Irene Hervey attended the drama school of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and received her first studio contract there in 1933 . She made her film debut in 1933 with the film Return from Foreign Countries . For Hervey, however, initially only supporting roles in insignificant B-movies followed , before she became known for larger roles in films such as The Girl Said No (1937) or Say It in French (1938). Perhaps the greatest success of her career she had in 1939 at the side of Marlene Dietrich and James Stewart in The Big Bluff . In the 1940s, the attractive blonde mainly played leading roles in smaller crime or adventure films. However, Hervey was never to become a big movie star, possibly also due to a car accident in 1943, after which she had to take a long break.

From the 1950s on, the actress appeared in numerous television productions. In 1969 she received an Emmy nomination for a guest role in the US series My Three Sons . The films Die Kaktusblüte (1969) and Sadistico stand out from her late work . In the latter thriller, directed by Clint Eastwood , she played the owner of a radio station. In 1981, Hervey retired into private life. The actress received a star on the Walk of Fame (Motion Picture 6338 Hollywood Blvd) for her film work .

Irene Hervey was married to actor Allan Jones from 1936 to 1957 . Their son is the pop musician Jack Jones . She died of heart failure in Woodland Hills near Los Angeles in 1998 at the age of 89.
