Tina York
Tina York (born Monika Schwab in Bingen on April 29, 1954 ) is a German pop singer . She had her greatest success in 1974 with We don't let singing be forbidden .
Career
After finishing school, she initially worked as a legal assistant . In 1969, at the age of 14, she recorded her first unsuccessful single under the stage name Monia. In 1970 she was discovered by Rudi Wolpert at the wedding of her sister Mary Roos . In the same year, Oh Mama Good Bye , a German version of the Tremeloes hit Me and My Life , was released her first single under the stage name Tina York. The singer was under contract with the record company CBS from 1970 to 1976 and worked with producers such as Peter Orloff and Jack White .
York was a guest in numerous music programs on television, including a total of 17 times on the ZDF hit parade from 1970 to 1981 , where she took first place in 1974 with the title We Don't Let Singing Be Forbidden by White and Fred Jay . With Where the Sun Shines , Liechtensteiner Polka (both 1974) and An Eagle Can't Fly (1977) York was each among the top three songs. In 1976, York took part in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song Das alten Haus and came last. The title, which was based on the popular disco style at the time , did not initially appear as a single or on an album, probably due to this result. It wasn't until 2001 that Das alten Haus was published on the comprehensive compilation Stations: From Today to Tomorrow .
York achieved further successes in the German airplay charts from 1976 with Gib dem Glück eine Chance (1976), Ein Mann wie du (1977) and Ein Lied für Maria (1978) as well as the two top 10 hits An Eagle Can't Fly (1977) and I'm Here (1981). York recorded three studio albums in the 1970s, We're Not Forbidden To Sing (1975), I'll Serenade You Today (1977) and My Way To You (1978).
After a 29-year hiatus and numerous compilations of her successes and singles, a new album was only released in 2007 with the title I dream with you . In 2018 she was a participant in the twelfth season of the RTL show Ich bin ein Star - Get me out of here! , in which she took third place behind Daniele Negroni and season winner Jenny Frankhauser . York is divorced and lives in Berlin.
