Antonio Rios de Amorim has been CEO since March 2001 . He took over the company from his uncle Américo Amorim . The company is based in Mozelos and is a world leader in the manufacture of wine corks . Other main areas of focus are industrial engineering applications, especially in Europe and the United States . Four sub-areas form the framework of the company: construction industry , industry in general, shoe industry and cork industry . CAI is traded on Euronext Lisbon .

history

Business began in 1870 when António Alves de Amorim opened a factory in Vila Nova de Gaia to make wine corks by hand. In 1922, Amorim & Irmãos, Lda. founded. It was the basis of today's group. As Corticeira Amorim (Eng. Kork Amorim ), the company began in 1963 ( founded by Américo Amorim , among others ) with the production of granulated cork and pressed cork, which is obtained from residual materials from the cork stopper industry. The Amorim Group is now one of the largest Portuguese companies and is a world leader in the cork industry.

The company holds 38.34% of the share capital of Galp Energia .
