REN - Redes Energéticas Nacionais SGPS, SA (formerly Rede Eléctrica Nacional SA) is a Portuguese transmission system operator . It was founded in Lisbon in August 1994 . The REN shares are listed in PSI 20 .

The company's main activity is to ensure the country's public electricity supply. The aim is to guarantee the stability and security of the electricity supply . Tasks are the operation and further development of the high-voltage lines on the Portuguese mainland as well as the administration of power plant locations and the management of public tenders for the construction and operation of new power plants.

The company is also involved in the storage and transportation of liquefied natural gas. It owns and operates a natural gas liquefaction plant in Sines .

On February 2, 2012, the government in Lisbon announced that the Chinese State Grid Corporation would acquire 25% of the share capital of REN. The purchase price was EUR 287.15 million.
