Zaanstreek is a region around the river Zaan in the west of the Netherlands in the province of North Holland . The word streek means in German  area .

The Zaanstreek is bordered by Amsterdam in the south, the Polder Beemster in the north, Kennemerland in the west and Waterland in the east. Three municipalities (Zaanstad, Oostzaan and Wormerland) together form the Zaanstreek. The largest municipality is Zaanstad with over 100,000 inhabitants, which was formed from the city of Zaandam and the villages of Westzaan, Krommenie, Wormerveer, Zaandijk, Koog aan de Zaan.
