Zacchaeus Faber the Elder

Zacchaeus Faber the Elder (* 1554 in Beucha ; † 1628 in Hohenleina ) was a German Lutheran clergyman and hymn poet .

Life

Zacchäus Faber was born in Beucha in 1554. After attending the University of Leipzig in 1573 and the University of Wittenberg in 1574, he first worked as a teacher from 1576, then as rector of the city school in Torgau . He enrolled at the University of Wittenberg on August 22, 1581, and on September 9, 1581 acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy. After he had been ordained on March 18, 1584 at the Wittenberg town church, he took over the position of pastor in Plossig . In 1593 he moved to a pastor's position in Röcknitz , in the same capacity he briefly moved to Prettin in 1609 and went to Hohenleina as a pastor that same year.

Faber had married Dorothea Gentzsch (born February 4, 1630 in Torgau), the daughter of the pastor in Elsnig Martin Gentzsch. There are children from the marriage. Of these we know: Zacchaeus Faber the Younger . Maria Faber who married Martin Schlegel in 1606 and Martin Uthmann, Mayor of Weißensee in 1645. Barbara Faber who married the deacon Jerimias Hickmann in Frauenprießnitz.
