Zacharias Allewelt

Zacharias Allewelt (* 1682 in Bergen , † 1744 in Copenhagen ) was a Danish - Norwegian captain .

In 1726 he was the captain of the Galiot Den unge Jomfru ( The Young Maiden ) on a voyage along the coast of Guinea and the Danish colonies in the Caribbean . He later sailed in the slave trade Asian Danish Company (for Danske Asiatiske Compani ), first as a navigator on the Slesvig ( Schleswig ). In 1727 he transferred 51 slaves from Guinea, of which 19 died on the way to the West Indies . From 1735 he traveled on the frigate Dronningen af ​​Danmark ( Queen of Denmark ). He made three trips to Canton in China . Here two sculptures were made by him, one of which is in the Art History Museum of Aust-Agder in Arendal and the other in the Danish Trade and Maritime Museum at Kronborg Castle .

Allewelt married Gjertrud Andersdatter Dahll from Neskilen in 1725 . They lived alternately in Copenhagen and on the Merdøgaard estate on the island of Merdø near Arendal .
