Zacharias Schäffer
Zacharias Schäffer (born December 31, 1572 in Peterzell in the Oberamt Oberndorf ; † March 6, 1638 in Tübingen ) was a German composer and historian and professor of eloquence at the University of Tübingen.
Life
Zacharias Schäffer was the brother of the theologian Michael Schäffer. He was matriculated in Tübingen in 1590 and received his master's degree there in 1594. In 1618 he became professor of history and poetry at the University of Tübingen. He was the nurse of Justina, daughter of the late Professor Erhard Uranius, Rector of the Contubernium. He was also the guardian of Ursula Hafenreffer, daughter of the late Matthäus Hafenreffer. His portrait, painted by Conrad Melberger in 1620 , hangs in the Tübingen professors' gallery . In 1736 he was the university's librarian.
