Zaire lowlands

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zaire lowlands ("water lowlands") are located on the south-west African Atlantic coast on the narrow coastal strip of Gabon , the Republic of the Congo , the Democratic Republic of the Congo and northern Angola . Topographically, it is located on the western roof of the Lower Guinea Sill , which runs there in a north-south direction. It spreads west of the emerging highlands of the Congo Basin and north and south of the Congo estuary in the coastal region.

National nature

Not far from the coastline, on and on the heights of the Lower Guinea Sill, the tropical rainforests begin . Numerous smaller and larger streams and rivers flow from this coastal mountain range towards the ocean . By far the largest river is the Congo, which flows as the second largest river in Africa from the east and from the Congo Basin , breaks through the threshold and then enters the elongated coastal lowlands. Because of the abundance of water, the locals gave the region the name "Zaire", which means something like "water".
