Zamenis is a genus of non-toxic snakes from the family of snakes , more specifically the subfamily of authentics snakes . The distribution area of the genus includes large parts of Europe and the Middle East .
features
The snakes of the genus Zamenis have a single hook at the base of the hemipenis . In contrast, other closely related adders ( Elaphe in the earlier definition) have more or less equally sized tips.
Way of life
The snakes come from sea level up to 2000 meters above sea level. NN. in front. Only Zamenis Hohenackeri lives at an altitude of up to 3000 meters above sea level. NN.
The adders of the genus Zamenis lay eggs ( oviparous ).

The following five species of adder are classified in the genus Zamenis :
- Transcaucasian climbing snake ( Zamenis Hohenackeri ( Shrub , 1873))
- Italian Aesculapian Snake ( Zamenis lineatus ( Camerano , 1891))
- Aesculapian snake ( Zamenis longissimus ( Laurenti , 1768))
- Zamenis persicus ( Werner , 1913)
- Leopard snake ( Zamenis situla ( Linnaeus , 1758))
The stair snake ( Rhinechis scalaris ) is also included in the genus Zamenis by some authors .
