The Zandkreekdam is a secondary dam as part of the Delta Works in the Netherlands , province of Zeeland, between Kats on Noord-Beveland and Wilhelminadorp on Zuid-Beveland . The dam is 830 meters long.

The Zaandkreekdam is part of the three-island plan from the 1930s. The aim of this plan was to connect Walcheren with Noord- and Zuid-Beveland. After the flood disaster of 1953 , this plan was adopted by the Delta Works and was the first construction phase.

Construction began in 1959. Standardized caissons 11 meters long, 7.5 meters wide and 6 meters high were installed. On May 3, 1960, two coupled caissons were sunk into the last vacant lot. Another lock was built at Kats for shipping. The dam was opened on October 1, 1960.

From 2000 the dam was overhauled and adapted to the increased traffic on the N256 by building a second bridge over the lock . In 2004 a water exchange lock was built so that seawater can flow into the Veerse Meer again .
