The Zapporthütte , built in 1872 on the edge of the glacier, is located a few kilometers from the origin of the Hinterrhein at 2276  m above sea level. M. and belongs to the Rätia section of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC).

The name Zapport refers to a region in the canton of Graubünden . The Zapporthorn , the Zapport Glacier and the Zapport-Alp bear the name . The hut can be reached on foot from the village of Hinterrhein or from the tank shooting range Hinterrhein in 2.5 to 3.5 hours. The mountain path is marked and requires surefootedness, as it partly leads along narrow passages near the Hinterrhein and then partly steeply along the terrain.

From the Zapporthütte you can reach the Rheinwaldhorn ( 3402  m above sea level ) at full speed . Crossings lead to Ticino , to the Zervreilasee in the Valsertal and to numerous other mountains.

The hut is open all year round, open from March / April and July to October; otherwise on request. The shooting range publication must be observed because of the Swiss Armed Forces shooting exercises .
