The Zapporthorn (from older ze board for to board for 'embankment, edge, ridge') is a mountain west of the San Bernardino Pass in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland with an altitude of 3,155 m above sea level. M.
Location and surroundings
The Zapporthorn belongs to the Adula Alps, which in turn are part of the Lepontine Alps . The mountain is entirely within the municipality of Mesocco . It is bordered in the north by the Rheinwald , in the east by the Misox and in the south by the Calanca valley.
The neighboring peaks include the Marscholhorn and Breitstock in the east, Piz de Mucia in the southeast, Pizzo de Stabi , Puntone dei Fraciòn and Rheinquellhorn in the east, Puntone della Parete and Piz Piotta in the south and Höhberghorn and Lorenzhorn in the north.
The Hinterrhein rises northwest of the Zapporthorn, on the slopes of the Rheinwaldhorn , Güferhorn and Rheinquellhorn , and flows via the Rhine to the North Sea . The Calancasca rises on the southern slope and the Moësa on the eastern slope , both of which flow into the Mediterranean via Ticino and Po .
The farthest visible point ( 44 ° 13 '38 " N , 7 ° 3' 41.9" O ) from Zapporthorn is 2693 m slm high Testa Rognosa della Guercia on the boundary between the Italian region Piedmont and the French region Provence -Alpes-Côte d'Azur and is 297 km away.
The Zapporthorn is glaciated on all flanks. Only the glacier on the north side has a name on the map, namely the Zapport Glacier . In the SAC club guide , the glacier on the east side is called Ghiacciaio de Mucia .
North-west of the Zapporthorn, but on the other side of the valley, is at 2276 m above sea level. M. the Zapporthütte hut belonging to the Swiss Alpine Club SAC .
Valley locations are Hinterrhein and San Bernardino . Frequent starting points are the San Bernardino Pass and the Zapport Hut.
